BC Graduate Scholarship Program (BCGSP) for Canadian Citizens and Permanent Residents

Valued at $17,500.00 for one year, these awards are available to full-time students who are entering a Master’s or Doctoral program at the University of Northern British Columbia. Scholarships are provided by the Ministry of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills (the Ministry) as a merit based scholarship to reward student excellence within research-intensive graduate programs.  The BCGS is awarded to incoming graduate students by each Faculty.

Eligibility:

Students must be in a graduate level program and have completed between 0 - 12 months of studies by September 1 of each year. Students must be Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents. Students cannot have previously received a BC Graduate Scholarship or other Entrance Award from UNBC during their program.

Students must have the intention to enroll in a research-intensive graduate program with an emphasis, but not exclusive focus, on disciplines related to Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics, Entrepreneurship and Design, Indigenous and regional programs.

Consideration is based on a Graduate Admission GPA of 3.67 or greater.

PhD SUPPORT SUPPLEMENT

The PhD Support Supplement Program has been re-envisioned, and beginning May 2025, this award will be awarded on admission by the Faculty. The award is valued at $10,000 for one year and provides a second year of funding to select students who received the BCGS or GERS in year 1 of their program.

New Eligibility Criteria:

These awards will be available to full-time PhD students with an overall GPA of 4.00 (or equivalent) or higher.  Students must have received the BCGS or GERS in year 1 of their program.
