Apply to graduate

2024 Graduates

The application for graduation is available online between June 15 to March 31 every year. Eligibility for degree conferral (i.e. getting your degree) is determined by the Office of the Registrar.

Students completing their degree requirements must apply to graduate. If you are applying to graduate for the first time, please apply online via myUNBC. Otherwise, please complete an application for graduation form

Graduation Application Deadlines

  • If your final coursework is completed in the Fall semester, your degree will be granted in January. The deadline to apply for graduation is November 1.
  • If your final coursework is completed in the Winter semester, your degree will be granted in May. The deadline to apply for graduation is March 1.
  • If your final coursework is completed in the Spring/Summer semester, your degree will be granted in September. The deadline to apply for graduation is July 15.

Reminders

  • You should be registered in any remaining coursework prior to applying for graduation.
  • Applying for Graduation does not guarantee conferral of your degree.
  • The Application for Graduation processing fee is non-refundable and must accompany each application. If you are completing multiple credentials (i.e. a Certificate and a Degree), you need to apply for each separately.
  • Official transcripts for coursework completed on a Letter of Permission at another institution must be received by the Office of the Registrar on or before May 3 to allow time for a degree audit.
  • Graduate students who are not able to defend a thesis or dissertation before April 30 are not eligible for degree conferral in May. Please wait to apply to graduate until after June 15. Please contact the Office of Graduate Administration via email at grad-office@unbc.ca for an updated defense schedule.

Conferral of Degrees

UNBC confers degrees three times a year after every semester, in September, January and May. Parchments are printed after each semester and will reflect the month the degree is conferred by Senate. If you meet the requirements to have your degree conferred in September or January you will have the option of receiving your parchment before the annual Convocation; however, you are still able to attend Convocation.

For more information on your degree, conferral dates or your specific graduation application please email credentials@unbc.ca.
