With concern for what is happening in the world today, such as climate change and urban sprawl, environmental planners focus on solutions for making the world a better place to live. The field of environmental planning explores unique perspectives of today's problems and creates solutions for an increasingly complex world. 

 

Students can specialize in three areas of study:  Natural Resources Planning, Northern and Rural Community Planning, and First Nations Planning.  These areas of study respond to the needs and interests of northern BC while remaining relevant to the needs and interests for planning across all regions of Canada.  To read more about our these areas of study click here.

 

 

With concern for our students' future careers, our program is accredited as a school of professional planning by the Canadian Institute of Planners and the Planning Institute of British Columbia.  This means that our students can be members of and interact with professional planners the first day they arrive at UNBC.

 

Our graduates have been very successful finding the jobs they wanted soon after graduating.  They have secured employment in the public, private, and non-profit sectors throughout North America, Asia, and Europe.
