Tobacco and Mental Illness
A new study led by Russell Callaghan of the Northern Medical Program at UNBC indicates that people with mental illnesses have a two to four times greater risk of death from smoking-related diseases than the general population.

Effects of Drinking Age Studied
A recent study authored by Dr. Russell Callaghan demonstrates the significant effect drinking age laws can have on youth mortality rates. The findings were published in the international journal Drug and Alcohol Dependence.
Northern communities will invest more than $176,000 this year to support the education of future doctors and Nurse Practitioners. The investment comes from the Northern Medical Programs Trust, a $7 million endowment established by communities, individuals, and corporations.
