Spotlight: Nurse Practitioner

Advanced (more than 4 years)

Family nurse practitioners (FNP) provide primary care services to patients that are seen regularly through follow-ups. Their spectrum of practice can include health assessment, diagnosing disease and conditions, and promoting preventative health. FNPs can conduct health histories and physical exams, prescribe medications, order diagnostic tests and refer to specialists.

Education

Individuals who wish to apply for a Graduate FNP Program must first complete a four-year bachelor program in Nursing, obtain at least two years (full-time) of relevant experience as a Registered Nurse, and then pursue a two-year (or equivalent) FNP Master degree program.
