Biography

Dr. Troy Michael Bordun completed his doctoral degree in Cultural Studies at Trent University. During his PhD, Dr. Bordun served as co-director of the Trent Film Society. He is an active researcher in film and media studies, celebrity studies, porn studies, and comics studies. In the latter field, Dr. Bordun received an SSHRC Explore Grant and a Research Strategic Initiatives Grant (UNBC) to study superheroes and philosophy. A manuscript on this topic is under review. Before becoming an Assistant Professor, he taught as a contract instructor at various institutions across Canada, including UNBC (English and Gender Studies), Concordia University (Film Studies, Sociology, Art History, and Communication Studies), Trent University (Sociology and Cultural Studies), and Bishop's University (English and Film Studies). He received the part-time teaching award at Trent University. He sits on the editorial boards of Comics Studies: Theory and Practice (University of Exeter Press) and Porn Studies, and is co-chair of the Comics Studies Special Interest Group (Society for Cinema and Media Studies).

Research and Expertise

Currently, Dr. Bordun is preparing a manuscript linking contemporary superhero comics and continental philosophy. He has also begun developing an edited collection about the Invincible transmedia franchise (Prime Video; Image Comics). Finally, he is actively researching online pornography, labour, platforms, and celebrity.
