UNBC Accepting Nominations for Chancellor

Prince George, BC – Nominations are now open for the distinguished position of University of Northern British Columbia Chancellor.

As the formal head of UNBC, the Chancellor is responsible for conferring all the degrees granted by the institution and plays an important ambassadorial role for the University in the community. The Alumni Association of UNBC is looking for nominations of people who have an established relationship with the University, who understand the institution’s regional mission, and who are comfortable with and adept at ceremony.

The Alumni Association will consult with the UNBC Senate during the selection process and recommend a candidate to the University’s Board of Governors.

The next Chancellor will succeed John S. MacDonald, who has been UNBC’s Chancellor since 2010. MacDonald will complete his second three-year term in 2016.

The successful candidate will be announced in the fall of 2015 and will be installed at the Convocation Ceremony at the Prince George campus in May 2016.

Hon. Iona Campagnolo was named UNBC’s founding Chancellor in 1992. Dr. K. George Pedersen, Dr. Peter Bentley, and Dr. Alex Michalos have also held the position.
