UNBC ranks #2 nationwide

Macleans ranking 2022

Good morning,

I am pleased to share with you that UNBC continues to be one of the top small universities in Canada, placing second in the Primarily Undergraduate category in the Maclean’s magazine rankings. To place #2 is an outstanding achievement that reflects the commitment of our students, faculty, staff, alumni, donors and community champions to work together to create a rich and unique learning environment that inspires the next generation of leaders.

UNBC has shown remarkable consistency at the top of the rankings, this is the 19th consecutive year our University has placed in the top five! We received high marks across categories that speak to the unique and innovative experiential student learning opportunities, the quality of our faculty and staff, and the cutting-edge research gaining national recognition. We also had our strongest showing in the national reputational survey – finishing fourth in our category! The survey includes feedback from university faculty and administrators as well as business stakeholders from across the country.

Sustaining this level of excellence is a team effort. To consistently be ranked in the top tier of small universities can be directly attributed to of all of you – our faculty, our staff and most of all our students. I want to thank you for your ability to adapt and persevere as we returned to in-person learning, for your innovative solutions to challenges and for your efforts to create a more welcoming, inclusive learning environment.

The annual rankings are an opportunity to pause and reflect on where we’re at and think about the ways we can continue to work together to make UNBC the best place to study, work and learn. I am grateful for your continued efforts to make our shared vision a reality.

Sincerely,

Geoff Payne
President and Vice Chancellor
