Welcome to the NRES Graduate Program

We are a dynamic graduate program offering an MA, an MSc, an MNRES and a PhD. We have 58 faculty who supervise graduate students in the various degrees with a wide range of interests and expertise. Our graduate students come from across Canada and from around the world. While we are a relatively small graduate program, we have a great deal to offer students.

Graduate Success

94% of NRES alumni are working in professional positions related to their degree or are pursuing further graduate training.

Broad Training

Our graduates are broadly trained for future careers in research, teaching, governance and/or protection and management of natural spaces, ecosystems and resources

About our Faculty

Our faculty are recognized nationally and internationally for their research, service to their professions and service to the communities that UNBC serves.

Ideal Location

If you are studying in the natural resources and environmental fields, UNBC is in a great location with natural laboratories and wilderness all around (no giant metropolis here) and lots of recreational and social opportunities outside the classroom.

Small Classes

You will not get lost in the crowd at NRES. Our graduate cohort averages around 140 students every year. You’ll have smaller classes and your professors will know who you are. Our faculty supervisors offer opportunities for close professional working relationships in smaller groups.

Tuition Grants

PhD candidates receive an automatic four year tuition grant.
