Housing guarantee

First-time resident and first year undergraduates

We believe living in Residence is an important and meaningful way for new undergraduates to begin the university journey.

Housing criteria (must meet all requirements)

  1. You are eligible to live in Residence (age 17 or over by the end of your first semester, and enroled in a minimum of 1 UNBC university level course per semester living in Residence).
  2. Your UNBC Housing offer is accepted by May 1.
  3. You must not identify as a newly admitted international student or exchange student.
  4. You are entering UNBC as a first-time post-secondary student and you have not completed any post-secondary coursework at UNBC or any other post-secondary institution.

Indigenous students

The Indigenous Housing guarantee is open to all Indigenous students from Turtle Island (Canada). UNBC is dedicated to making living on campus more accessible to Indigenous people, and to improving our ability to support the personal and educational needs of Indigenous students. UNBC recognizes that Indigenous students make valuable contributions to the Residence living and learning environment, and therefore invites Housing applications from Indigenous students under this guarantee.

Applicants who wish to be considered under this guarantee must self-identify as being a person of Indigenous ancestry from Turtle Island (Canada) upon submission of their UNBC Housing application.

Housing criteria (must meet all requirements)

  1. You are eligible to live in Residence (age 17 or over by the end of your first semester, and enroled in a minimum of 1 UNBC university level course per semester living in Residence).
  2. Your UNBC Housing offer for the academic year (September to April) is accepted by August 1.
  3. You are not a newly admitted international student or exchange student.
  4. You must self-identify as being a person of Indigenous ancestry from Turtle Island (Canada).

Youth in care students

Students have to fulfill the eligibility requirement for the B.C. provincial tuition waiver for former youth in care as follows:

  1. Canadian citizen from British Columbia.
  2. Between 19 to 26 years of age.
  3. Have been in care* for a minimum of 24 months.
  4. Attend a B.C. public post-secondary institution, Native Education College or one of ten Union Institutes.

*Care is defined as any of: interim custody order, temporary custody order, continuing custody order, special needs arrangement, voluntary care agreement, youth agreement, extended family program, temporary transfer of custody, permanent transfer of custody, or child in the home of a relative.

Housing criteria (must meet all requirements)

  1. You are eligible to live in Residence (age 17 or over by the end of your first semester, and enroled in a minimum of 1 UNBC university level course per semester living in Residence).
  2. Your UNBC Housing offer is accepted by August 1.
  3. You must successfully submit a provincial tuition waiver application to the UNBC Office of the Registrar.

Varsity athletes

Housing criteria (must meet all requirements)

  1. You are eligible to live in Residence (age 17 or over by the end of your first semester, and enroled in a minimum of 1 UNBC university level course per semester living in Residence).
  2. Your UNBC Housing offer is accepted by June 30.
  3. You must be accepted by the UNBC Timberwolves student athletes program as a varsity athlete on any UNBC Timberwolves team.
