Academic resources

Student on laptop

The Academic Success Centre (ASC) has many resources available to regional students. Even though it's located on the Prince George campus, the ASC strives to be responsive to the needs of regional students, distance students, and instructors. Students can access resources from the ASC on the UNBC website, within Moodle, and through other formats as requested.

Moodle access

To access many academic resources, students who are currently enrolled in courses at UNBC can log into Moodle to access online tutoring and additional academic resources. Writing tutoring is available to regional students through the online writing tutoring services in Moodle. Downloadable and online resources are frequently added in response to queries or requests from regional and distance students on the ASC website and the Learning Commons.

If you are a student who is having trouble accessing Moodle, please contact the ASC at asc@unbc.ca or call 250-960-6367 to gain access.

Phone and videoconference access

Students can also access academic resources through the ASC via phone or videoconferencing by request. Resources such as writing tutoring, study skills (including LASSI assessments), and content support are available by phone or videoconferencing.

Online workshops

In addition to the resources available through the ASC website and Learning Commons, online workshops can be arranged for interested groups of students. When the ASC runs a workshop, they will provide access via videoconference.

Be on the lookout for upcoming workshops throughout the semester. Students can contact the ASC at asc@unbc.ca or call 250-960-6367 to inquire about setting up a phone tutoring appointment or online workshop.

Course material delivery

How to submit your assignments

Your instructor should provide you with instructions for submission of assignments.

In Quesnel, there is an assignment drop box to the left of the main office door for submitting assignments after-hours. Staff check this box regularly.

If your instructor is located at another campus, they may ask you to submit assignments through the internal mail. The University's inter-campus internal mail is a courier bin service between the Prince George campus and the regional campuses. Assignments sent through the courier bin to Williams Lake will be delivered through inter-campus mail to the Thompson Rivers University campus Library for the instructor to pick up. Williams Lake students can use the same service to send assignments to instructors in Quesnel and Prince George.

Delivery schedule

Course materials delivered through the courier bins are picked up on a daily basis and delivered to the appropriate class. Please allow one extra day for distribution of materials on the receiving end.

Delivery service is overnight unless otherwise noted. The bin is delivered to Williams Lake and sent out twice a week, so plan accordingly.

Label and date stamp your submission

All mail should be clearly labelled with the instructor's name and location. Assignments should be date stamped at the designated drop off point before being sent to the instructor.

Courier strike procedures

In case of a courier strike, mailing instructions will be made available as early as possible. It is your responsibility to keep in contact with both your instructor and us to check on the arrangements.

Bookstore

Students at the Quesnel and Williams Lake campuses can order their books directly through the Bookstore in Prince George and have them delivered to their campuses. Books can be ordered online or with a phone call to the Bookstore. For students not at the Quesnel or Williams Lake campuses, books can be ordered through the Bookstore and delivered to the student’s home, but shipping costs may apply.

Please see the Bookstore for a listing of your course textbooks requirements.

Computer labs

The Quesnel campus has a drop-in computer lab for students to use. The computers require a CNC Wi-Fi login for access. Students can request a CNC Wi-Fi login from the front desk or by emailing south-central@unbc.ca.

Note: Please check with the South-Central office for computer availability at the TRU campus in Williams Lake.

Printing

Printing in the student computer lab is through PaperCut. Students can ask the Student Success Coordinators at the South-Central campus if you have questions about printing.

Library services

Library at South-Central campus

The South-Central campus has a library managed by the College of New Caledonia. There are study rooms, computers, and a copier for students to use.

Students can also access books and other reference materials through the UNBC Library in Prince George.  Books can be sent to the Quesnel and Williams Lake campuses via the courier bin at no cost to the students. Please note in the library order to send books to the South-Campus. The regional Student Success Coordinators will inform students when the books are ready for pick-up.

The UNBC library also offers inter-library loans and those materials can also be sent via the courier bin as well.  Please contact the South-Central Office in Quesnel or the UNBC library in Prince George for more details.

Student can email library@unbc.ca for specific questions about UNBC Library accounts and services.

Grades and transcripts

Regional students will receive their grades on their Student Account after the grades have been processed for each semester.

Students can make transcript requests online or in-person. For a step-by-step guide on how to order transcripts online, use this transcript ordering instructions document.

Course evaluations

At the end of the term you will be given a course evaluation form. Please take the time to fill it in. Your comments are an important factor in the quality of delivery of all types of courses. Completed evaluations should be submitted to the front desk at the South-Central campus. If you are registered in a web course, you will receive an email with instructions for online evaluations.
