Challenge Day Three
November 8 - Memorial Awards
Raising funds in memory of UNBC employees & students
After people pass away, it’s a natural response to want to honour their lives in some way. Many families and friends have chosen to create a student award in the name of their loved one. The legacies of many UNBC employees and students live on in this way, through the award’s impact on UNBC students.
Giving suggestions:
- Brittany Fotsch Farm Heritage Award
- Dr. James McDonald Memorial Award
- Perry Michael Shawana Bursary
- Ron Brown Memorial Bursary
Your donation supports students in the fields that meant the most to these individuals.
Student Testimonial
Karista Olson, 4th year English & Environmental Studies
“Coming from a small, tight-knit community, there are many challenges associated with leaving my home and family to pursue an education. I am truly honoured to receive this support, and I will continue to work towards a successful career in Indigenous rights, youth development and environmental sustainability. Ha’miiya.”
Champion’s Message
Peter Jackson, Professor, Environmental Science and Engineering
“I can think of no better way of remembering someone, especially a colleague who is no longer at UNBC, than by creating a ‘living legacy’ through a donation that will benefit deserving students. If enough donations can be collected, an endowment will ensure that the student award will persist in perpetuity, keeping memory of that person alive and benefiting future students.”
