Vickers, Adam

Adam VickersBA Economics and Political Science, 2014

What work are you doing now?

I am a Financial Consultant. I take the complexities of finance by building financial plans tailored to the individual's needs and aspirations.

What other positions have you held since graduating?

I worked as a Financial Service Representative with CIBC helping clients with basic banking needs. I also worked with Edward Jones as a Financial Advisor, completing the Canadian Securities Course and the Life License Qualification Program (LLQP).

What other training have you completed?

I have completed all the courses required to be licensed to sell mutual funds and insurance in Canada.

How did your degree lead to these activities?

Having a degree in Economics helped give me credibility when applying for jobs, which helped get my foot in the door.

How do you use the knowledge acquired through the degree in your job/schooling?

The information I obtained and the experiences I've had at UNBC, including my involvement in communities and working closely with the professors, have had a huge impact on how I’m doing my business now. I was able to take experiences you do not often get at larger universities, such as becoming President of the Northern Economic Student Society and Vice President of the Political Science Student Association and built the skills needed to develop my business.

What do you really enjoy about Economics?

I really enjoy the modeling aspect and looking at different, complicated ideas so that it’s easier to understand and easier to explain.

Why would you recommend the Economics program at UNBC to potential students?

I would recommend the program at UNBC to potential students because of the level of community involvement that’s available at UNBC. You are able to connect on a personal level with professors, which is a unique part of obtaining a degree that you don’t get at bigger universities. It is a small program where you work closely with your peers and know more people within the program.
