Maclean's Magazine released the results of its annual ranking today and UNBC
achieved its highest ranking ever, placing second among 19 small,
Canadian universites (which Maclean's calls "primarily undergraduate"
universities). Mt. Allison placed first.
As in other years and in other surveys, UNBC performs very well in
categories that measure students and faculty quality, class size,
library growth, and research. In fact, UNBC placed first for "total
research," reinforcing the results in the "research university of the
year" analysis that was printed in the National Post last week.
In addition to the objective data that Maclean's gathers from the
various universities, Maclean's uses student and reputational surveys
to assess perceptions of university quality. UNBC was tops in BC for
faculty-student interaction and overall educational experience for
students on the verge of graduating. In the reputational survey, we
were again identified as a "leader of tomorrow."
The Maclean's survey rounds out a series of annual reviews of
universities, covering student satisfaction (Globe and Mail), research
(National post), and overall quality (Maclean's). We reached our best
result ever in Maclean's and the National Post and we debuted in the
Globe at A-, second in BC. Overall, great results that illustrate the
success we have all - northern communities, government, students, and
faculty/staff - had in building a high-quality university for the North
and beyond.
