The University’s new Teaching and Learning Centre is gradually taking shape at the north end of the campus, as the concrete and structural steel are now visible above ground.

Construction management is being undertaken by Bird Construction of Edmonton, with a number of local contractors involved:



Richbar Nursery (Quesnel) – retaining wall and associated drainage
Integrated Contractors (Prince George) – concrete
RF Klein & Sons (Prince George) – excavation
Prince George Steel (Prince George) – reinforcing steel
XL Ironworks (Surrey) – structural steel
Flynn Canada (Surrey) – metal decking
RH Jones & Sons Mechanical (Prince George) – plumbing
Bryant Electric (Prince George) – electrical

Phase One is including the site preparation, concrete foundations, and the structural steel and has been worth about $8.1 million. Today, the bids for phase two will be opened, which will include the exterior, windows, roof, installation of wood beams for the atrium, and interior finishing.

 

At about 108,000 square feet (10,040 square metres), the Teaching and Learning Centre will be one of the largest buildings on campus and will house various degree programs, classrooms, research space, and offices. Funding has been provided by the Government of BC as part of its commitment to increase the number of post-secondary seats in the province.
