Nominations Sought For Prestigious UNBC Public Awards

The University of Northern BC is welcoming nominations for two distinguished public awards.
The "Honorary Doctor of Laws" degree recognizes distinguished achievement in scholarship, research, teaching, the creative arts, and public service with a particular focus on those who have made important contributions to the life of the University, British Columbia, Canada or the world.
The award "Friend of the University of Northern British Columbia" recognizes achievement in the areas noted above, but with a particular emphasis on those who have unselfishly given of themselves to create, promote, or foster the development of UNBC.
Nominations must be sent to the Senate Assistant, by Monday, August 18, 2003 and should include the following information:
1. The name and current address of the nominee
2. The honor for which the nominee is to be considered
3. A current curriculum vitae (resume) of the nominee
4. A list of publications or other achievements of the nominee
5. A brief statement outlining why the nominee should be considered for this honor
6. The name, current address and phone number of the nominator(s).
The nomination form and policies providing guidelines are attached or may be obtained from the UNBC website at www.unbc.ca/governance/senate. Nominations should be sent to the attention of the Senate Assistant at UNBC. The award recipients will be recognized at the 2004 Annual Convocation Ceremony on May 28, 2004.
Previous honorary degree recipients have included Audrey McLaughlin (2003), Ike Barber and Freda Diesing (2002), Denise Chong (2001), and Bill Reid (1994). Founders Bruce Strachan, Tom Steadman, and Murray Sadler are among those who have been recognized as Friends of UNBC.
