UNBC To Hold Climate Change Panel With Environment Minister David Anderson

The Honourable David Anderson, Minister of the Environment, will be leading a panel of science and public policy specialists during a public event at UNBC to discuss climate change issues and the Kyoto Protocol. The event will be in the Canfor Theatre on Monday, January 13th, beginning at 6:30pm.
A number of UNBC professors will make up the panel that will join Minister Anderson for a discussion of the key issues:
  • Peter Jackson is a professor of Environmental Science and Engineering. He has conducted research on climate and pollution dispersal in the air.

  • Heather Smith is an International Studies professor with expertise on international environmental policy and the northern dimension of Canada's foreign policy. In 2000, she was the co-recipient of a national award for the best article in International Journal for a study on Canada's commitment to climate change policy.

  • Art Fredeen is a Forestry professor at UNBC. He is organizing a national conference on the effects of climate change on northern and western forests that will take place at UNBC February 17-19.

  • Scott Green is also a member of the Forestry program at UNBC and his research has focused on the relationship between forest growth and environmental conditions, and how forest structure may change in response to climatic fluctuations.
The discussion will be moderated by UNBC Vice-President Research Max Blouw and include opportunities for the public to ask questions and express their views.
