"Len's experience with managing a major local sport franchise
will go a long way in helping UNBC achieve success with its sports teams,
while enhancing the experience of all students, faculty, and staff who
use the fitness centre," says UNBC President Charles Jago. "We're
very happy to have a person who's well-respected in the local athletics
community in this position; someone who can help us realize our goal
of having an on-campus Sportsplex
in the future."
"I'm ecstatic to be involved with an organization such as UNBC.
I'm eager to meet with others around the University to map out a future
for Athletics and the Fitness Centre that capitalizes on its opportunities,"
says Mr McNamara. "My background as a builder in sports and administration
should serve me well in this new job. I look forward to continuing and
strengthening my ties with the northern BC sports community."
Mr McNamara has been involved with athletics for 20 years, starting
as an on-ice helper and statistician for the UBC varsity hockey team.
He has a bachelor's degree in Physical Education and Commerce from The
University of British Columbia.
At UNBC, Mr McNamara will be responsible for overseeing the operation
of the Fitness Centre, UNBC's varsity
basketball teams, the junior varsity program, and intramurals.
