Branscomb, Dr. Richard
Biography
Dr. Branscomb is a teacher-scholar of rhetoric with expertise in technical communication and writing pedagogy across the disciplines. He has designed, taught, and coordinated a range of technical and professional communication courses, guided by a teaching philosophy of accessible, student-centered learning in globalized communication contexts. At UNBC, Richard is developing technical writing curricula in Engineering, including for the MASc in Engineering program. He also contributes to outreach efforts to strengthen partnerships between the School of Engineering and northern B.C. communities.
Research and Expertise
Richard's research is attentive to issues of sustainability, accessibility, and antiracism in technical and engineering contexts. He is interested in developing pedagogical pathways that empower technical practitioners to collaboratively build human-centred, socially just outcomes in northern B.C. and beyond. His prior work interrogated the conventional culture of gun violence in the United States from the 1990s to the present as it has intersected with recent trends in far-right mobilization and violent white-Christian ethnonationalism worldwide.
