Through research , teaching and outreach we aim to integrate the sciences, business administration, and management of natural resources and environments, in ways that are recognized internationally for their roots in traditional and basic knowledge, their value to rural and remote communities, citizens and industries, and their global pertinence.

Governor General's Silver Medalist, Amy Hayduk, examines the fluorescent properties of a new RNA probe. Hayduk, a 2006 graduate, received a NSERC USRA to continue working with Dr. Stephen Rader on RNA splicing. Using a powerful tool known as "molecular beacons", she developed a new way to measure specific RNA molecules that is highly sensitive and significantly faster than existing methods.
