Governor General's Silver Medalist, Amy Hayduk, examines the
fluorescent properties of a new RNA probe. Hayduk, a 2006 graduate,
received a NSERC USRA to continue working with Dr. Stephen Rader on RNA
splicing. Using a powerful tool known as "molecular beacons", she
developed a new way to measure specific RNA molecules that is highly
sensitive and significantly faster than existing methods. |
