We are pleased to advise that UNBC will continue to have an accredited Co-op Program. With the assistance of Dr. Bob Ellis, Chair of Business, a model has been developed that we believe will be sustainable given our size and geographic location. The key factors we have incorporated include; greater flexibility, stronger academic linkages, a more "self-directed" approach and greater inclusiveness. While specific details of the model are being finalized, the plan is to have this new model ready to go in January for implementation in April 2008.
Current Co-op students can continue to apply for Co-op work terms as per normal. The existing model of Co-op will be in place until the end of August, 2008, allowing those with at least two work terms under their belt to complete under the current model. Those who have not completed the required three work terms by August, 2008, can continue under the new model.
Senate has recently approved two changes to the calendar that will impact the Co-op Program. Firstly, the requirement for four work terms has been reduced to three. While students can still undertake four, there is no longer a requirement to do so. Secondly, the requirement to maintain a GPA of 2.75 has been replaced by a requirement for 2.50.
The Student Career Centre will continue to administer the Co-op Program for the current cohort and take on the new model once implemented.
Co-op students are encouraged to contact the Student Career Centre office if they have questions regarding work term placements, forms or information under the old model of the program.
