Walking to and from UNBC is an easy, no-frills method of sustainable transportation (and it's great exercise)! For your safety, there is a pedestrian sidewalk along University Way and, and a multi-use path along Tyner Boulevard.
Forests for the World Trail Network
For those who like to take a lunch-time walk, a between-classes stroll, or just need to de-stress in nature, Forests for the World is in UNBC's backyard. Please ensure that you are well-prepared: wear suitable clothing, familiarize yourself with the trail maps (posted at trailheads), and be aware of potential hazards. We share this space with a variety of wildlife, including moose and bears. Please review this very important safety information regarding wildlife encounters before heading into the forest.

Stroll to Explore
Stroll to Explore is a project pitch from three volunteers at UNBC: Scott Monroe, Faizaan Somani, and Allison Stubbs With funding from Fraser Basin Council's Co-Creating a Sustainable British Columbia program (@fbcyouthprogram), they researched and developed 15-Minute Walkshed Maps across five major bus stops in Prince George.
These signs are intended to promote car-alternative traffic in Prince George and are visible from major bus stops. The maps highlight bus routes, nearby walking trails, shopping centres, and parks. Each map also includes an approximation of how much carbon emissions are saved by walking instead of driving.
Student Planners' Association alumni, Scott Monroe, was responsible for creating the maps, finalizing graphics, and coordinating with the City of Prince George. Although these signs are temporary in nature, they represent a larger project that the City of Prince George and other collaborators could pursue to promote alternatives to car dependency.
