What inspired you to pursue your program?
My journey to Occupational Therapy (OT) began with a simple yet profound desire: to help people and make a difference in my community. I've always known that I wanted a career in healthcare, but it took some time to discover the perfect fit. Occupational Therapy, to me, is the embodiment of what healthcare should be – holistic and encompassing. It doesn't just focus on one aspect of health; it takes into account the whole person. The beauty of this profession lies in its diversity. It's not confined to a single set of capacities or a particular group of people. It opens doors to work with individuals from various backgrounds and with a wide range of needs.

Moreover, what truly drew me towards Occupational Therapy was the level of autonomy it offers. Being able to make a real difference in people's lives, especially during their most vulnerable moments, resonated deeply with me. It wasn't just about surface-level care; it was about addressing the core issues and enhancing the overall quality of life. This was my "aha" moment, and it solidified my decision to pursue Occupational Therapy.

Why did you choose UBC/ the Master of Occupational Therapy - North?
I was well aware of UBC's reputation for academic excellence and the outstanding programs it offered. That is why, five years ago, I made the life-changing decision to move from Toronto to northern British Columbia. The move from Toronto to northern B.C. wasn't just about a change of scenery; it was a strategic step towards my educational aspirations. I believed that being in proximity to UNBC would eventually open doors for me to become a part of UBC's remarkable community.

Fast forward to today, and I am immensely grateful to find myself enrolled in one of the best Occupational Therapy programs in the country, if not the very best.  I’m confident that the UBC Master of Occupational Therapy - North is not only going to provide me with a world-class education but is also going to give me the opportunity to be a part of a thriving community of like-minded individuals who share my passion for healthcare and community service

If you could travel anywhere in B.C. where would you go and why?
I have heard so much about Haida Gwaii people, culture and views and would love to explore the island one day.

What inspired you to pursue your program?
Through my experiences of working in a hospital, I was able to work collaboratively with a team that showed me the impact that Occupational Therapy can have on communities. My own fears had prevented me from applying to the program in the past, but with more experience behind me, I was ready to expand my education. Being able to stay local and learn from the UBC MOT-N program will allow me to become an educated future contributor to our healthcare system.

Why did you choose UBC/ the Master of Occupational Therapy - North?
I had the privilege of living in smaller communities while growing up, but as I got older, I lived in larger urban centres. I had recently been feeling unsettled in a large city and moving felt like the next step for me. The opportunity to move to the North felt like the right fit and with that came the opportunity to expand my education. UBC has been putting effort into developing connections with northern B.C. through their medical programs and I am grateful for the opportunity to give back to and learn from the smaller communities of B.C.

If you could travel anywhere in B.C. where would you go and why?
I would travel to Haida Gwaii because it is a part of BC that I have not explored yet. It takes a bit of travel, but I have heard nothing but good things from those who have been there before. The closeness to nature and the concept of community is strong in this part of B.C. and I would love to learn more from this area.

What inspired you to pursue your program?
I have always had a passion for science, creativity and problem-solving. Occupational therapy allows me to combine these interests in a way that supports other people’s well-being. Working closely with patients to find innovative ways to improve their quality of life is incredibly rewarding, and I love the diversity of the patient populations occupational therapists can engage with.

Why did you choose UBC/ the Master of Occupational Therapy - North?
I chose UBC’s Master of Occupational Therapy program because of the emphasis on hands-on clinical education and the opportunity to live and study in this beautiful province. Being in the Northern cohort means I can be surrounded by nature every day. I can find a lake for a study break swim or go for a hike between classes. The small class sizes and connection with local faculty also appealed to my personal learning style and desire to work in a rural community.

If you could travel anywhere in B.C. where would you go and why?
I’d travel around the Northern Gulf Islands on a sailboat. It’s a stunning part of the province and one of my favourite places to be out on the water with seemingly endless islands, coves, and beaches to explore.
