Introduction to Web Development

Description

This is a hands-on, fast-paced course where students gain the conceptual and technical skills to create online art and design content.

Techniques covered include image preparation, video and audio compression, navigation, HTML and CSS authoring using Adobe Dreamweaver and Google Chrome. Trial versions of the software are sometimes available on the company website, but at this time there are no discounts available for Continuing Studies students.

This course is offered in partnership with OCAD University to offer a wide range of courses for enhancing your career expertise in web, design, photography, analytics, and technology.


Working with your OCAD U account

As a student, you will receive an OCAD U user account, which will grant you access to the OCAD U learning management system, called Canvas. Your Canvas account will be enabled one week prior to the start date of your course. Login at canvas.ocadu.ca.

Learning Outcomes

  • Build valid and accessible websites with HTML and CSS which meet W3C, WCAG and AODA standards
  • Create responsive layouts with modern CSS techniques such as the box model, media queries, flexbox and CSS grid
  • Demonstrate a broad perspective on the diverse and shifting landscape of web development technologies
  • Optimize and embed assets and media such as font, image, audio and video files into HTML

Course Requirements

Students are responsible for purchasing their own supplies. Regular access to a computer with a webcam and microphone, high speed broadband internet connection is required.
