A Special Topics Course offered by the Department of Anthropology.
July 25, 2017
Deconstructing Epidemics course takes a biosocial anthropological and epidemiological approach to the study of epidemics, which is grounded in the biomedical paradigm, statistical reasoning, and the understanding that disease risk is context specific. The fundamental question explored in this course is, “when is an epidemic an epidemic?” Topics of co-morbidity and syndemics, the epidemiological transition, and the epidemiological triad will be explored. In addition, epidemiological statistics such as the tests of significance will be used in the case study scenario. Restrictions: open to 3rd and 4th year and graduate students.
