At the First Nations Centre and Office of Indigenous Initiatives, our communication is grounded in respect, relevance, reciprocity, and responsibility.
We support and engage in ongoing dialogues that guide the university’s commitments to reconciliation, decolonization, cultural safety, and Indigenous student success. Through continued engagement, storytelling, and partnership, we work to strengthen connections across campus and uphold an environment where Indigenous perspectives meaningfully inform and enrich the university’s path forward. In this page, we have put together previous conversations on reconciliation, decolonization and cultural safety. We will continue to update this section of the website with similar ongoing events.
Four Connections Celebration
Our seasonal celebrations are held at the end of each season (Winter and Summer Solstice) to commemorate time and welcome new beginnings with song, dance, and storytelling. Each ceremony is celebrated with performances from our respected and beloved Elders and guests.

Walking This Path Together
This is an ongoing discussion group with faculty, staff and students. To examine our pedagogy in light of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) Calls to Action and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) declarations. Some topics may include what informs our practice, what needs to change, defining terminology and other questions as they arise when considering decolonization and Indigenizing pedagogy.
