The research committee brings together faculty and students to promote research within the Faculty of Indigenous Studies, Social Sciences and Humanities. To achieve this, the committee will work with faculty partners to organize activities and events that will provide meaningful and relevant information to researchers to facilitate their activities in achieving their research goals. The Research Committee not only wants to promote new and ongoing research, but also works to celebrate research achievements and the dissemination of research results. We hope to spotlight the endeavors of all researchers at UNBC and spotlight their success to students, faculty, administrators and the larger public across UNBC and beyond. To do this, the Research Committee organizes a number of events throughout the year to promote a strong and vibrant community committed to valuing research in our faculty.

Re-presenting Riel:100 Years in the Canadian Historical Review
Dr. Max Hamon
Following the publication of The Audacity of His Enterprise: Louis Riel and the Métis Nation That Never Was, 1845-1875 (McGill-Queens 2019), I was invited to reflect on historiography of Louis Riel as part of the centennial of the Canadian Historical Review. You can view the article HERE. The result was an article based on 100 years of writing on Louis Riel in Canadian history. In this talk I will discuss the research process and the challenges of situating oneself critically within a historiographical tradition after having published a book.
For those who are unable to attend in person but are interested in hearing Dr. Hamon speak on the topic please join us through Teams.

Research Symposium:
The FISSSH Research Committee is organizing the 2025 annual research symposium, which will be held on Thursday, March 13 in the UNBC Conference Centre (6-205) from 8:30am-4:30pm.
This symposium is open to faculty members, graduate students, and senior undergraduate students.
This will once again be an exceptional way to get to know what research is being conducted in FISSSH and to learn about the individual and collaborative work that faculty members and students are doing. For students, this will be a wonderful opportunity to gain presentation experience by sharing your thesis, project, or course-based research in a supportive space.
A light breakfast, lunch and refreshments will be served.
Gutting the American Elections: A FISSSH Perspective
