The design features a split background with two photos: on the left, a damaged apartment building with shattered windows and debris; on the right, a hanging installation of metallic objects with red strings labeled “PEACE PLEASE.” The text explains that after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, DocNoteFilms and Babylon’13 produced “Art in the Land of War,” a series of 25 short films about Ukrainian artists who remaine

LIVING DURING WARTIME, with Ukrainian artist Oleg Chorny

October 15 - November 15, 2025

Please join us for the powerful return of artist Oleg Chorny to UNBC.  He and others share artist commentary directly from Ukraine, post-invasion (2022 onward), via cinematography and responses to big questions about art, war, and humanity.

We are welcoming multiple films, a remote artist visit (Oleg Chorny during the reception indicated below), and stills from the films being shared with us. This exhibition will offer insightful cinematic narratives into life in post-invasion Ukraine.

This exhibition raises questions such as: What is the place of an artist in a country at war? What is art capable in wartime? How can creativity exist in a society focused on waging an existential war?

Opening reception with light refreshments at 12pm (noon) on October 16, 2025 in the Robert Frederick Gallery.  UNBC Prince George campus.  3333 University Way.

For booking and exhibition inquires please contact the Arts Council Chair Zoë Meletis at zoe.meletis@unbc.ca. Please note that we do not normally have solo artist exhibitions; we welcome ideas for group or community exhibitions.
