Full-Time Graduate Students

Course Load

Full-time status students need to register in at least six (6) credit hours per semester. 

Federal Granting Agencies

Only students with full-time status can apply for Canadian federal granting agency scholarships:

  • Social Sciences & Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC)
  • Natural Sciences & Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC)
  • Canadian Institute of Health Research (CIHR) 

UNBC Awards​

Only applicants with full-time status can be considered for the prestigious Graduate Entrance Research Scholarships (GERS). 

Other UNBC Scholarships/Awards have varying criteria regarding part-time and full-time student status. Review the eligibility criteria carefully. 

Student Loans

Canada and Provincial Student Loans require students to be full-time graduate students.

UNBC Awards

Applicants with part-time status are not eligible for the Graduate Entrance Research Scholarships (GERS).
