Tips for Success

Visit, and get to know your professors during their office hours!

Ask questions about their research, education, and career pathways – these can be valuable connections later in your education and career.

Access the support UNBC offers!

Whether it’s the Academic Success Centre to get some writing help, MACE to get some assistance with your math homework, the Wellness Center to see a counsellor, or any of the other many support systems that UNBC offers, these supports are free and they are here for YOU!

Visit the First Nations Centre and have a chat with one of the Campus Cousins.

Or, while you’re there, connect with our Cultural Coordinator and see what kinds of cultural activities are on the go!

It’s okay to ask for help—whether it’s finding your class, making an appointment with your advisor, or asking when the next bus arrives to campus.

Don’t be afraid to reach out to the students, staff, and faculty around you. We’re all here to help you succeed!

Get lost on campus.

Explore the paths you might not typically take around UNBC and enjoy all the hidden gems, such as the salt water aquarium, the echo lounge, the Smudging Room, and much more!

Bring your favorite dish to a monthly potluck at the Gathering Place.

It’s a great opportunity to meet students, faculty, and staff, and enjoy great food in a casual, cultural environment.

Take advantage of the Northern Sports Centre.

It’s a beautiful facility that offers tons of classes, workout spaces, squash courts and more. Try your hand at Boxer FIT, slow things down with a yoga class, or do some laps on the longest indoor track at a B.C. university.
