Canada West Women’s Soccer Preview
UNBC @ Calgary
October 13th, 2018
11 AM PT

UNBC Timberwolves (1-6-3)
8th in Pacific Division Standings
16 Goals For
27 Goals Against
Goals Leader: Paige Payne: 8 Goals
Assists Leader: Madison Emmond: 4 Assists
Points Leader: Paige Payne: 10 Points
Saves Leader: Madi Doyle: 36 Saves

Player to Watch:
Jenna Wild, M
A freshman midfielder, Wild has been a great find for Neil Sedgwick and the Timberwolves. Standing five-foot-four, Wild plays far beyond her limited frame by understanding angles and winning balls throughout the midfield. Her calm approach will be crucial against a dynamic Dinos side.

Calgary Dinos (9-1-0)
1st in Prairie Division Standings
19 Goals For
3 Goals Against
Goals Leader: Maddison Fritze, Montana Leonard: 3 Goals
Assists Leader: Amy Mikuska: 4 Assists
Points Leader: Amy Mikuska: 6 Points
Saves Leader: Lauren Houghton: 38 Saves

Player to Watch:
Lauren Houghton, GK
A second-year keeper from Calgary, Houghton has been nearly unbeatable this season. In her ten starts, the Dinos are 9-1, and she has eight clean sheets, allowing just three goals over that span. Coming into the contest with five consecutive shutouts, she will need to be tested early and often.

UNBC Timberwolves (1-6-3)
8th in Pacific Division Standings
16 Goals For
27 Goals Against
Goals Leader: Paige Payne: 8 Goals
Assists Leader: Madison Emmond: 4 Assists
Points Leader: Paige Payne: 10 Points
Saves Leader: Madi Doyle: 36 Saves

Player to Watch:
Paige Payne, F
Eight goals in ten games places Payne atop the Canada West leaderboard this season. The native of Kitimat has had a breakout year, and is tough to contain because of how she scores many of her goals. Using her speed and creativity, the third-year Payne is the straw that stirs the drink for the UNBC attack.

Lethbridge Pronghorns (1-8-1)
8th in Prairie Division Standings
4 Goals For
19 Goals Against
Goals Leader: Lindsay Amatto: 2 Goals
Assists Leader: Vanden dungen, Harris, Williston: 1 Assist
Points Leader: Amatto, Vanden dungen: 2 Points
Saves Leader: Chelsey Galbraith: 29 Saves

Player to Watch:
Lindsay Amatto, M
The Pronghorns have had difficulty scoring this season, with just four goals in ten games, but Amatto is possibly their most dynamic player. A five-foot-four forward, Amatto is responsible for half of Lethbridge’s offense this season, and will need to be good against a gritty Timberwolves side.

Quotes:
UNBC’s Sonja Neitsch

On the Timberwolves’ recent play…
“I think we are really happy with how we are playing. We are definitely sticking to our Timberwolves DNA, as Neil (Sedgwick) would say.  We are setting a competitive standard, but we have just been a little bit away from getting those points, which we are really hungry for.”

On the matchup with the Dinos…
“We know Calgary has a really strong keeper. I played with her for a long time, as well as a few other girls. They’re a really athletic team. They’ve been winning games and earning lots of shutouts, so I think it’ll be good for us to test the keeper and keep attacking the way we have been attacking.”

On the matchup with the Pronghorns…
“Lethbridge is in a similar spot in the standings as we are, so it’ll be good to see how their division is matching up against ours. They’re going to be hungry for a win as well, but if we stick to what we know and play the way we have been, we will find success.”
