BRANDON – It was a different start from the night before, but a similar finish as the UNBC Timberwolves earned the weekend sweep over the host Bobcats with a 76-71 win Saturday night.

It took the Bobcats just over a minute and a half to hit match their point total from the entire first quarter Friday night, but UNBC answered the bell with an 8-0 run to take an early 15-8 lead.

A strong second quarter by the Bobcats was capped by a Hailey Maas three which sent the two teams to the halftime break tied at 35-35.

Brandon continued that momentum into the second half, effectively widening the gap to 11 thanks to a three by Maas late in the third quarter. Saturday was just Maas' second game of 2018, but the St. Joseph, Mich. product played well, shooting 4-for-7 from beyond the arc on the night, finishing with 18 points to go with four assists.

The Timberwolves struggled to stop the Bobcats to start the second half, but UNBC would persist, taking their first lead of the second half on a pair of free-throws at 69-68 after BU's Amy Williams fouled out.

The 'Wolves would slowly widen the gap thanks to tough defense, hanging on for their eighth win of the season, which moves them to .500 on the season at 8-8.

The loss is Brandon's seventh straight in conference play to sit at 2-12.

Leading the way for UNBC was Maria Mongomo's double-double performance, notching a game-high 23 points and 10 rebounds. Vasiliki Louka also had an outstanding night, putting up 18 points and pulling down 16 boards.

Lauren Anderson finished just shy of a double-double for the second straight night, contributing 19 points and nine rebounds, while Amy Williams had 17 points for Brandon.

Up next for UNBC is another road trip next weekend, as the 'Wolves head south to Victoria to play a pair of games against the Vikes.

The conference schedule doesn't get any easier for the Bobcats as they will travel to Regina to take on the #3 nationally ranked Cougars next weekend.
