WBB: Guan ready to bring creativity to Timberwolves backcourt
The University of Northern British Columbia’s Women’s basketball team has added a dose of creativity and sound decision making to its backcourt, officially announcing the commitment of Provincial team veteran Lucy Guan for the 2018-2019 Canada West season.
Standing five-foot-five, Guan has never been the biggest athlete on the court. Often, however, she is the smartest, using her quickness and ability to read the game to her advantage.
A 2018 graduate of Britannia Secondary School in Vancouver, Guan led the Bruins to a bronze medal at the AA BC Girls Basketball Championships. She is ready to make the leap to the university level.
Timberwolves coach Sergey Shchepotkin had Guan visit the UNBC campus this spring, and was impressed with what he saw.
Guan, who was a second-team all-star at the 2018 Provincial Championships, points to her recent visit as critical in her decision to join the TWolves. She is aware of the team’s back-to-back Canada West playoff appearances, and looks forward to adding to that culture.
An honour roll student, Guan will pursue Commerce during her time at UNBC. She will join her Timberwolves teammates in August in preparation for the upcoming season.
