Statement Regarding Charlottesville Events

University of Northern British Columbia President Dr. Daniel Weeks issued the following statement following the events in Charlottesville, Va., over the past week:

“At the University of Northern British Columbia, we value our social and cultural diversity. The recent events in Charlottesville serve to remind us that as a post-secondary institution, it is our role to advocate for a society where hatred, bigotry and violence are not tolerated.

“As our motto, ‘En Cha Hunà, emphasizes, at UNBC we believe in respecting all forms of life. We bring together people with diverse backgrounds and beliefs to share ideas, stimulate creative thinking and advance knowledge. We know that the more viewpoints we examine and the more people we engage with, the stronger we are.”
