Media Release

August 20, 2009

Approximately one hundred people are expected to attend a teaching and learning conference at the University of Northern British Columbia next month. Diversity and Internationalization is the focus of the Seventh Annual Teaching and Learning Conference being held at the University on September 2 and 3. This year, the event means to include more colleges and universities from across northern BC.

The conference is being organized in cooperation with instructors from the College of New Caledonia, and advertising for the event has been sent to Northwest Community College in Terrace, Prince Rupert, and Smithers as well as the seven Northern Lights College locations throughout Northern BC.  The event has also attracted financial support from the Northern Post-Secondary Council.

The keynote address, Seeking the Holy Grail: Transforming Curriculum for Enhanced Student Learning, will be given September 3 by the Director of the Office of International Affairs at the University of Victoria, Dr. James P. Anglin. There will be a breadth of hands-on workshops with presenters from UNBC, CNC, Thompson Rivers University, and members of the community.

Conference registration is now open and while there is no registration fee, all attendees must register by August 26, 2009. Full registration details and the schedule of concurrent sessions are available online at http://tandl.unbc.ca/.  For further information please contact the conference co-chairs: Dr. Lisa Dickson from the UNBC English Program or Dr. Andrew Kitchenham from the UNBC School of Education.
