Second Annual UNBC Green Day January 21
January 13, 2009
The most comprehensive “green” survey ever conducted by the University of Northern British Columbia will be held next week in conjunction with the University’s annual Green Day on January 21. Students, faculty, and staff will have the opportunity to vote for the initiatives that matter most to them, ranging from better recycling options to achieving carbon neutrality. The vote, which will take place in the Winter Garden, is one of a number of activities being planned for Green Day:
“There will be a variety of events and displays throughout the day, raising awareness of what the University is already doing to be Canada’s Green University, while also focusing attention on what more the University – and individual members of our community – can do,” says Dr. Dale. The green survey will allow students, staff, and faculty to select their top priorities from nine topic areas: responsible procurement, waste reduction, recycling/composting, reducing the use of fossil fuels and electricity, travel to/from campus, more sustainable food services, achieving carbon neutrality, environmental education and research, and water and campus grounds. Results of the survey will help to shape green initiatives over the next few years. The University has had a green committee for the past two years. The first UNBC Green Day was in March, 2008.
