New Northern Medical Program Class

A Record Number of Northerners and UNBC Grads
January 6, 2009
33 students are beginning their coursework in Prince George this week as the fifth group of future physicians to enter the Northern Medical Program. This group is the largest ever and includes twelve graduates of UNBC.

Members of the media are welcome to meet the students and join the annual photo shoot of the incoming class.  This will be at 11:30am on Thursday, January 8, in Room 9-235 of the Dr. Donald Rix Northern Health Sciences Centre. The students will introduce themselves and where they’re from and provide some information about what attracted them to the Northern Medical Program.

This year, there are students from a number of northern BC communities: Smithers, Terrace, Kitimat, Fort St. John, Burns Lake, Prince Rupert, and Prince George. There are also a brother and sister who grew up in Kitwanga.

The Northern Medical Program is part of the UBC Faculty of Medicine, delivered in collaboration with UNBC.  The students who have arrived in Prince George this week have completed their first semester of courses at UBC’s Vancouver campus and now have the opportunity to complete their coursework and practical work experiences in Prince George and other communities around the region.  The program produced its first graduates in 2008.
