A Coming of Age for UNBC:

Four students share a birthday with the University
October 2, 2008
For the first time, UNBC has students who were born the same day as the University itself. On June 22, 1990, the Government of BC passed the UNBC Act, the legislation that officially created the University. Four students who are attending UNBC this year were also born that day.

“This is an interesting coming-of-age milestone for UNBC. Many people still think of UNBC as new, but we are now attracting students who never knew life without UNBC,” says UNBC Provost, Mark Dale.

Members of the media are welcome to meet the students on Friday afternoon when they will be participating in a photo shoot with Interim UNBC President Charles Jago, then-Minister of Advanced Education Bruce Strachan, and Murray Sadler, a former President of the Interior University Society who presented the original case for UNBC to the Government of BC. The event will be at 1:30pm in the Atrium of the Administration Building.

Three of the students – Stephen Bonnett, Crystal Male, and Kristjan Mytting – are from Prince George. The fourth, Chandehl van der Eykel, is from the Lower Mainland.

The recognition of these students is coinciding with the University’s annual donor appreciation event, which will be held Friday evening on campus. This year, 900 student awards worth $2.1 million were presented by the University. Nearly 400 awards are funded entirely by private donors.
