The UNBC Northern Timberwolves men’s and women’s basketball teams will play their first home games in more than two months this Saturday when they host UBC Okanagan at the Charles Jago Northern Sport Centre.

“So far this season we’ve been drawing up to 1500 fans to our home games, the highest number in our league and on par with the attendance at other Canadian university basketball games. Our fans have provided a huge boost to both of our teams when we’re playing at home,” says Len McNamara, Athletics and Recreation Director for UNBC. “It has been a dream come true for many of us to have a facility like this and we’re continuing to add features and promotions that will make our home games a terrific experience for all of our fans.”

New this weekend:
•    Play-by-play will be streamed – LIVE – from the University website. To listen during game times, click the “listen live” icon on the Timberwolves’ website: www.unbc.ca/athletics.
•    UNBC students attending home games will have the chance to win free tuition up to $1500. For the remainder of the season, students will have the opportunity enter their student numbers at home games for the chance to win the tuition credit. The winning student number will be drawn on the final home game of the season (February 9).
•    The Northern Undergraduate Student Society will be giving away a $250 Bookstore gift certificate during a half-time contest.
•    The women’s team is adding 3rd year player Theresa Smith of Valemount to the roster as a post.
•    The corporate sponsor for Saturday’s games will be Elly Johnsen of Investors Group.

Following the games tomorrow, the season will have reached the mid-way point. Currently, the UNBC women’s team has a record of four wins and three losses. The men are 2-5.

The women’s game starts on Saturday night at 6pm. The men’s game will follow at 8pm. Tickets are available at the game: adult tickets are $5 each, students and seniors pay $3, and a child ticket is $2.
