Timberwolves' Season-Opener This Weekend

Men's Team Debuts at #1 in Canada
November 1, 2005 for immediate release
The Northern Timberwolves men’s and women’s basketball teams will be beginning their 2005-06 seasons at home this weekend against Capilano College. Games will be played this Friday and Saturday at the College of New Caledonia.

Based on their pre-season action, the UNBC men’s team is ranked #1 in Canada among all collegiate teams. “Obviously, we’d rather be number one at the end of the season than at the beginning, but the ranking does provide some reward for the hard work our athletes have already put in this year,” says men’s head coach Zane Robison. Against other teams from the Canadian Colleges’ Athletic Association, UNBC was 7-0 in pre-season play.  Their only losses were to the University of Saskatchewan and the University of Alberta, both highly ranked teams in Canadian Interuniversity Sport.

While the women’s team had fewer pre-season games, their record includes a win over last year’s national champion from Concordia College in Alberta.  The women are currently ranked 5th in BC.

The Northern Timberwolves are in action this weekend against Capilano College:
Friday:          6:30pm (women) and 8:15pm (men)
Saturday:     6:00pm (women) and 8:00pm (men)
