Women’s Basketball Coach to Pursue Level 4 Certification
UNBC Searches for Interim Coach
March 22, 2005 for immediate release
Loralyn Murdoch, the head coach of the UNBC
women’s Northern Timberwolves basketball
team, will be pursuing Level 4 coaching certification from the National
Coaching Institute. Upon completion of the program, Loralyn will be the first
coach in northern BC to have this certification for basketball, which will
provide her with opportunities to coach at the national level.
The certification is being offered through the University
of Victoria with former national team
coaches, Ken and Kathy Shields, and will require that Loralyn take classes in Victoria from August to
April. She will also be working as an Assistant Coach with the University of Victoria Viqueens, winner of a national
championship in 2002-03.
As a result, UNBC is currently recruiting an interim head coach to
lead the women’s basketball team during the 2005-06 season.
“UNBC is 100% supportive of Loralyn’s pursuit of this advanced
coaching certification. Investing in coaches is the first step to achieving a
higher level of athlete development in our region,” says Len McNamara,
Athletics and Recreation Coordinator at UNBC. “Loralyn’s commitment to
improving her skills as a coach is an important part of our goal of
participating in inter-university competition in Canada.”
