Responding to the Needs of Northern Communities
The University of Northern British Columbia has established teaching and research expertise in key areas such as health care, the environment, and northern identity. The Northern Medical Program is only the latest example of how UNBC is working with northern communities and governments to increase educational opportunities, conduct relevant research, and help diversify the regional economy. These activities protect, enhance, and celebrate the cultures and vitality of the North, and help northern communities realize their aspirations. Click the

A Campus That Captures the Essence of the North
UNBC's Prince George campus is a showpiece for northern architecture with massive wood and granite beams and soaring atriums. UNBC also boasts a sophisticated telecommunications infrastructure, with fibre-optic cable crisscrossing the campus and servicing every lab and
classroom. To connect
medical students in Prince George, Vancouver, and
Victoria, for example, the
new Northern Health Sciences Centre provides a 1-gigabit per second network - supporting data transfer rates
that are equivalent to 700 home high-speed internet connections or
downloading 30 songs from the web in one second. |
