DAWSON CREEK RESIDENT WINS INAUGURAL AWARD

A business leader from Dawson Creek is the inaugural recipient of an award created by the University of Northern British Columbia to recognize leaders in knowledge advancement throughout the northern region.

Doris Brocke has been with the Kiwanis Enterprise Centre for 10 years and currently manages the facility. She oversees programs that encourage the entrepreneurial attitude and develop small business skills. According to Doris’ nomination, she has been the driving force behind Branding the Peace, a major regional economic development initiative originally launched in 1999. Linking 1500 regional agencies and organizations, the intiative includes the peacecountry.com portal and works to develop and strengthen industry clusters in which businesses work together to market their products and promote the region.

UNBC’s new Leader in Knowledge Advancement Award was presented at the annual Northern BC Today’s Woman Awards in Prince George. The award is presented to a northern woman who has significantly contributed to the advancement of knowledge in her field and who has thereby made a substantial contribution to social and economic advancement in Central and Northern BC.
