>unbc Issues First Tender For New Lab Expansion

March 9, 2001 For Immediate Release

The University of Northern British Columbia is inviting tenders from contractors to undertake site preparation work for the new UNBC laboratory building. The project includes site clearing and rough excavation. The deadline for bids is March 29th.

The UNBC lab expansion will be built between the existing lab and the First Nations Centre. The 6,000 square metre facility will include teaching labs, an expanded Geographic Information Systems lab, and faculty offices. The existing lab will also be renovated to accommodate more research offices. The BC Government has recently committed an extra $6 million to the project, bringing the total value to just over $18 million. The new facility is expected to open in the fall of 2002.
