UNBC Launches New Website Design
The University of Northern British Columbia has a new website design that will be showcased during the Tech2000 show that will begin tomorrow at the Prince George Civic Centre.
The new UNBC website incorporates a new design with new links specific
for prospective students and
the general public. There's
also a new section of the website with information about Prince George
and Northern BC, with direct links to community organizations, northern
BC tourism, and even the Prince George Cougars. The new site also brings
a consistent identity to all of the official UNBC webpages and helps
to ensure accuracy of information while reducing duplication.
"The web is one of the University's most important marketing tools
for prospective students," says Associate Vice-President Student
Services and UNBC Registrar Alex Reed. "About 40% of all student
applications for this Fall were
submitted online and a student survey indicated that, among information
sources, only the Calendar
is consulted more than the web - and even that document is online."
On any given day, visitors to the UNBC website view a total of 6,000
pages. The homepage - at www.unbc.ca - receives about 1000 visits per
day.
"With so many of our students and faculty coming to UNBC from outside
of Prince George, the web provides information on everything from UNBC
degree programs to local
recreational opportunities," says Rob van Adrichem, Director
of Media and Public Relations. "No other BC university website
matches UNBC's for the combination of design consistency and both the
quantity and accuracy of information."
The re-design of the UNBC website is the first since 1996. In the near
future, the website will be featuring video clips about university activities
and links to large databases with information on course offerings and
faculty profiles.
