Grand Opening Of Terrace Campus

October 11, 2000 For Immediate Release

The grand opening of University of Northern British Columbia's Terrace campus will be October 24. The new facility completed in August contains 3,000 square feet of space, providing three classrooms, a computer lab, student office space, library, and faculty offices. The office is located at 4741 Park Avenue (at the corner of Eby and Park, part of the BC Access Centre).
"This new location is increasing accessibility to the University," says Leslie King, the new Northwest Regional Chair. "There are currently eleven courses begin offered at the Terrace campus, with about 100 students throughout the region. In addition, a bachelors degree program in Social Work will begin in January with 15 students. The courses for that program will be taught in Terrace and delivered by distance to other communities in the region."
The grand opening ceremony is open to everyone in the community and will run from 4:30 - 7:30pm. Entertainment will be provided and there will be opportunities for local residents to learn about the range of courses and future offerings.
Other events will happen at the new Terrace campus that day:
Noon - the Northwest Regional Advisory Council will be meeting with UNBC President Charles Jago, offering advice on community needs, programming, and university service.
3pm - President Jago will receive a $20,000 contribution from the Rotary Club of Terrace. This endowment will support the annual awarding of a $1000 scholarship to a Terrace student attending UNBC.
