A total of 288 scholarships and bursaries worth $400,000 will be handed out to students at the University of Northern British Columbia awards ceremony on February 2, 1999. The event will begin at 7pm in the Atrium of the Administration Building.

Speakers will include UNBC President Charles Jago and this year's recipients of the President's Scholarship - Kelly Road grad Nicole Ross and Caitlin Birdsall of New Westminster. The $5000 President's Scholarships are the University's most prestigious awards.

Since 1994, the total number and value of awards has risen dramatically. When UNBC opened, there were 130 awards with a total value of $117,400. The number of awards has more than doubled and their value has increased by more than 300%.

The University's North to the Future fundraising campaign was successful in creating a $7 million endowment for student awards. The new fundraising phase, Building on Success, is aiming to increase that endowment to $12 million.
