Wheel Thang - Mountain Bike & Rollerblade Relay Race

September 22, 1998 For Immediate Release

The second annual Wheel Thang mountain bike and rollerblade relay race will be held at the University of Northern British Columbia on Sunday, September 27th. The race will begin at noon, with registration scheduled between 9:30 and 11:30am that morning.

The race consists of two parts: rollerblading on the campus Ring Road, followed by a mountain bike circuit on the Forests for the World and Cranbrook Hill Greenway trails behind UNBC. Participants can enter as an individual (complete both parts of the race) or a team (one biker and one blader) in beginner, intermediate, or expert categories. The number of laps required to complete each part of the race depends on the participant's category.

Students and the general public are welcome to compete. The cost is $20 per person which includes a race t-shirt and the opportunity to win a number of participation prizes that have been donated by local businesses.

The race is being sponsored by Timberline Outfitters, Ultrasport, Tastebuds and Co. Café, UNBC, and FM94.

It's believed that the Wheel Thang is the only race of its kind in British Columbia.
