UNBC to celebrate 32nd Convocation

Prince George, B.C. – The University of Northern British Columbia is set to celebrate the remarkable learning journeys of the Class of 2025!

UNBC will grant 784 credentials during graduation events held in five northern B.C. communities, beginning with the University’s 32nd Convocation Ceremonies in Prince George on May 30 and followed by celebrations in Gitwinksihlkw, Terrace, Fort St. John and Quesnel.

The 2025 Governor General’s Academic Medals for scholastic achievement and the Lieutenant Governor’s Silver Medal for Inclusion, Democracy and Reconciliation will be presented as part of the Convocation Ceremonies and graduation celebrations.

The Gold Medal recipient, Christine Añonuevo, completed her PhD in Health Sciences with a 4.33 grade point average. Añonuevo’s research examined the health stories of 10 Indigenous, Black and Filipinx women co-researchers across northern B.C. and was fully funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council’s prestigious Joseph-Armand Bombardier Award.

The Silver Medal recipient, Megan Wilson, is being recognized for her academic achievement, maintaining a 4.31 grade point average while earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree through the Northern Baccalaureate Nursing Program at UNBC’s Northeast campus in Fort St. John. Wilson received multiple awards and bursaries while enrolled in the program, including the Fort St. John Hospital Foundation Award.

The Lieutenant Governor’s Silver Medal recipient, Sean Robinson, is graduating with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in History. Robinson made significant contributions in the areas of inclusion, democracy and Reconciliation on campus and beyond during his undergraduate studies, from rejuvenating student engagement post-pandemic and raising the visibility of Canada’s Indigenous Peoples during international exchange programs to his recent academic work focused on reclaiming Indigenous historical agency in colonial narratives.

Robinson and Natural Resources and Environmental Studies PhD graduate Guowei Li are UNBC’s Class of 2025 Valedictorians. Robinson will deliver the valedictory address during Convocation’s Ceremony 1, while Li will address students graduating during Ceremony 2.

The Convocation Ceremonies are ticketed events; however, they will be livestreamed for all to enjoy on UNBC’s YouTube channel.


May 30 – Prince George – Ceremony 1 – 9:30 a.m.

UNBC’s 32nd Convocation will begin with the first student procession from the Bentley Centre on Friday morning, May 30.

Ceremony 1 begins at 9:30am and is scheduled to finish at 12:00 p.m. Students will gather immediately afterward for their class photo on the Ceremonial stairs in the Agora Courtyard.

Honours and awards presented during Ceremony 1: 

May 30 – Prince George – Ceremony 2 – 2:30 p.m.

The class photo for graduating students in Ceremony 2 will take place at the Ceremonial stairs at 1:00 p.m., followed by the procession from the Bentley Centre to the Northern Sport Centre for the start of the afternoon ceremony at 2:00 p.m.

June 2 – Wilp Wilxo’oskwhl Nisga’a Institute (WWNI) – Ts’oohl Ts’ap Memorial 

Hall – 1:00 p.m.

There will be 8 credentials handed out at Wilp Wilxo’oskwhl Nisga’a Institute’s (WWNI) graduation celebration in Gitwinksihlkw. There are three students receiving their Bachelor of Arts degrees in First Nation Studies and five receiving Certificates in Nisga’a Studies.

June 3 – Northwest (Terrace) – R.E.M. Lee Theatre – 1:00 p.m.

There will be 31 credentials handed out at UNBC’s graduation celebration in Terrace. There are 17 students receiving their Bachelor of Science in Nursing degrees from the Northern Collaborative Nursing Program (NCNP), 13 receiving their Bachelor of Education degrees, and one student graduating with a Master of Education in Counselling degree.

June 6 – Northeast (Fort St. John) – Northern Lights Campus Atrium – 1:30 p.m.

There will be 10 credentials handed out at UNBC’s graduation celebration in Fort St. John. All 10 will be graduating with their Bachelor of Science in Nursing degrees from the Northern Baccalaureate Nursing Program.

June 11 – South-Central (Quesnel) – Quesnel campus – 1:30 p.m.

There will be 13 credentials handed out at UNBC’s graduation celebration in Quesnel. There are 11 students receiving their Bachelor of Science in Nursing degrees from the NCNP and two students graduating with Bachelor of Education degrees.
