4 Nations Cup, Hockey Hall of Fame’s Phil Pritchard headline Timberwolves Legacy Night
Since its inception, the Timberwolves Legacy Night has raised $1 million, with every dollar directly supporting student-athletes at UNBC.
Prince George, B.C. – The University of Northern British Columbia’s annual celebration of sport, community and student-athlete success will shine even brighter this year as the 4 Nations Cup trophy makes a rare appearance at the Timberwolves Legacy Night, joined by Hockey Hall of Fame Vice-President Phil Pritchard.
The 11th annual Legacy Night will take place on Jan. 28, 2026, at the Prince George Civic Centre. Guests will have a chance to see one of hockey’s newest international trophies up close and hear from Pritchard, who has served as the Keeper of the Stanley Cup for 36 years. Under Pritchard's watch, the Stanley Cup has visited more than 25 different countries. The sport's most storied trophy has been to the top of several mountains, and has been soaked by swimming pools, lakes and oceans.
“The Timberwolves Legacy Night embodies the spirit of UNBC, celebrating the excellence of UNBC’s student athletes on the pitch and the court as well as their dedication to building and sustaining community at the University,” says UNBC Interim President Dr. Bill Owen “It’s inspiring to see how this event unites northern British Columbia in support of student-athletes who balance outstanding academic achievement while performing at the highest level of university sport.”
Now in its 11th year, Legacy Night continues to raise vital funds for scholarships and bursaries for UNBC student-athletes. Since its inception, the event has generated $1 million with every dollar directly supporting Timberwolves athletes.
“The Timberwolves Legacy Night has always been about bringing people together to celebrate sport and to support our student-athletes,” says UNBC Director of Athletics and Recreation Loralyn Murdoch. “We’re thrilled to welcome Phil Pritchard and the 4 Nations Cup to Prince George, and we can’t wait to share an unforgettable evening of hockey stories, celebration and community impact.”
For the 11th consecutive year, Canadian Tire is proud to serve as the title and keynote sponsor of Timberwolves Legacy Night. The 2026 Legacy Night will also mark the first time that the newly created Selen and Anita Alpay Leadership Awards will be presented to one member of each of UNBC's four varsity teams.
“The Legacy Night creates opportunities for student-athletes and celebrates the many ways they enrich the UNBC community,” says Dr. Selen Alpay, the owner of the Prince George Canadian Tire store. “Through their efforts on the field of play and their contributions off it, UNBC student-athletes show the true meaning of teamwork, perseverance and sportsmanship. We are honoured to recognize these inspiring individuals through the new Selen and Anita Alpay Leadership Awards.”
